Oldies but Goodies- My Colourpop Favorites 💋

Oldies but goodies….

thats what I reach for when I no longer have money to spend on buying new makeup. My beauty addition has actually been a pretty recent one, beginning this summer, when my sister and I spent a few too many hours watching YouTube beauty guru videos. Thus began my growing obsession with everything beauty and skincare.

Recently, I dropped a pretty penny on skincare deals, during Ulta’s 21 Days of Skincare this past January. As a broke college student, I chose to buy textbooks over buying some of the new releases from my favorite brands.

One of my absolute favorite brands is Colourpop cosmetics.

I am obsessed and they have been blowing up everywhere. If you haven’t heard about them yet… Where have you been?!?!

Check them now!

I have a small collection that I am slowing growing, but as mentioned above frivolous spending is being cut down for me right now. I am on a self-proclaimed NO BUY!

In light of not being able to spend any money, I though I would share some of favorite things that I have bought in the past.

Colourpop is well known for their liquid lipsticks and Super Shock shadows and let me tell you, they do not disappoint at all.

Back in the fall, I picked up two their lip bundles and they have provided me with two of my favorite hues.I am obsessed with Hutch in the Can You Knot Bundle and Viper in the Out and About Bundle.

Hutch is a very beautiful deep violet berry hue. It is perfect for nights out or when you are feel a bold vampy lip look. It is definitely a statement color.  Purchase Hutch here!

Viper is an ultra matte lip in a beautiful dusty pink, rose tone. It is a little darker than pictured but also good for making a statement. Purchase Viper here!

Recently I also purchased the Colourpop Mile High Shadow Kit. I cannot rave enough about Colourpop’s Super Shock Shadows. These little pots are extremely pigmented and very bendable. This a very good set if you are looking for a good assortment of neutral colors. In this set there are four metallic shadows, one satin shadow, and one satin shadow. My personal favorite is the satin shadow formula, which works well for day to day wear, but also provides a good amount for highlight to brighten your eyes or take the look to night.  Purchase Mile High here!

Now for those of you who are not on a NO BUY, like me, be sure to check out all of my Colourpop favorites and check out some of their new collections such as their collaborations with Alexis Ren and Hello Kitty. Let me know what you think of those new collections!

Happy shopping! Go fourth and be beautiful!

Face Mask Fun- A Review

Although I was unable to join her on her adventure, recently one of my roommates, Jessie, was able to go to Tensuke Market, a Japanese grocery store just a quick drive off campus. While there not only did she pick up some delicious Japanese snacks, she also picked me up a face mask.

If you know me well, you know that I love skincare products, especially Asian skincare such as face masks. Most of the ones that I have used in the past had been Korean sheet masks, so I was excited to try a Japanese sheet mask. I got even more excited when I saw what it was.

It was a dog sheet mask! What could be more fun than that!

This particular mask is a hydrating mask (based on what I gathered by the little English that was on the package). It contains great ingredients such as collagen, hyaluronic acid, and Vitamin-E.

My first impressions were good. It was very heavily saturated with the formula, which is always preferred in a sheet mask. It had a very heavy milky smell as well, which could be a good or bad thing, depending on your preferences. Additionally it did not have a plastic sheet folding in with the mask, which made it a little harder to separate, so just be careful not to rip it! Also be careful not to laugh too much (which is very difficult with everyone laughing at your face) because the mask will start to slip off and move around your face.

Please excuse the bad selfie 😂

I usually leave my masks on for around 15 to 20 minutes or until the mask starts to feel dry in certain areas (usually the nose, above the mouth and around the eyes dry out first). After I removed the mask, I patted the access formula into my skin like a serum. My skin was noticeably softer. I did not notice any brightness or any other large differences, but as far as hydration my skin felt plump and soft! I would give this mask 3.5 stars and an extra 1 star just because it was so fun!

Purchase this mask here on Amazon!

Now go fourth and have beautiful skin!

My Spring Break Essentials- Swimsuits 👙

After finally cementing my plans for Spring Break- it has been official decided that I am heading to Myrtle Beach! I am so excited, I have never been to Myrtle Beach before and I know that going with my friends will make it an even better experience.

Obviously as I head to warmer weather, oceans, and beaches, there is one thing you need…. SWIMSUITS!

One of my favorite places to get swimsuits is Aerie. They have an amazing variety of swimwear from bikinis to one pieces. Additionally, they have a wide range of sizes and are currently running an amazing body positive campaign. I love their AerieReal Campaign and the fact that they do not retouch any of their photos. The Marketing major in me loves this campaign and honestly think that it has really helped their sales over the past few years.

Already I can see some amazing trends emerging for this swim season.

One of my favorite styles for this season is crochet.

I personally purchased the black crochet one piece. This is an amazing suit to just chill on the beach. It can also easily be taken off the beach for a day out with some layers like a jean jacket and some cute printed palazzo pants.

Another popular style is boho influenced swim. There are lots of paisley patterns and tassels this season. The seventies style  was very strong the past few years with crop tops, bright florals, colors and flares, and I do not see this trend dying down this upcoming summer.

Here are some of my top picks.

Another fun style that has always been around when it comes to swimsuits is bright colors and prints! In fact, I believe that when it comes to swimwear the brighter the better. Summer is all about bright sunshine, vibrant colors, and having fun, so why not reflect that a little in your summer style.

I am loving all of the fun bright prints that Aerie has, along with their unique silhouettes. I think the fun cut outs and different designs are a good way to spice up solid colored suits. The wide variety of prints and colors, that they offer also allows for a wide variety of opportunities for mixing and matching.

In addition to the black crochet one piece, I decided to play around with mixing and matching some of their fun solid colored pieces with their printed pieces. I combined two fun trends crochet and bright patterns to create a look that I am very excited to take with me to Myrtle Beach.

I know I am looking forward to the warmer weather, especially with my new swimwear! hope this post brought some swimsuit inspiration to all of you, especially in this dreary February weather. Have fun shopping!

Breakfast for Dinner is Always a Good Idea ☕️

Cooking breakfast for dinner is always a good idea, especially when living in a dorm where home cooking food is extremely rare. Luckily for me, I have a few amateur chefs among my friends. So to anyone who says that you can’t cook as a freshman in a dorm, our weekend cooking adventure proves that wrong.

To begin, gather some supplies for your favorite breakfast foods. We decided that our must haves were bacon, sausage, and pancakes. We also gathered some creative toppings for our pancakes such as Nutella, peanut butter, chocolate chips, and strawberries.

After laborious cleaning, the extremely dirty griddles we were able to get started. (PSA to anyone using communal equipment, please clean throughly both before and after you use it! It will be super clean for you and the people who will be using it after you will not hate you).

Step one was putting the sausage in oven.

Step two was to begin cooking the bacon. Along with Bri, I was on bacon duty. That day I discovered something absolutely life-changing! Cook the bacon as you normally would, but add a sprinkle of brown sugar on the bacon before you flip it. It creates a delicious maple and caramelized flavor and texture. If you have not tried this already, 10/10 would recommend.

After that came the fun part! We got real creative with the pancakes. We let our Master Chefs, Kelly, Clint, and Sam, have a lot of fun with their pancake masterpieces. Some of my favorite combinations were Kelly’s cinnamon roll pancakes with a fun cinnamon swirl in the middle and Sam and Clint’s peanut butter and chocolate monstrosity.

All in all it made for both delicious and fun evening. It was even better spent with friends. So if any of you college students are looking for a fun way to kill a few hours with your friends in the dorm, cooking together is such a good idea.

If there is anything Emily, loves it is food. Good food and friends made for a very happy Saturday!

Winter Adventures- Columbus Zoo

Wintertime in Ohio is always one of my least favorite things. It is cold, snowy, and feels generally unbearable to go outside. In my first semester away from home and away from the comfort of cars to shuttle me from one indoor location to the next; I was expecting the worst. These cold winter months are made much more bearable with friends though, especially when old high school friends come to hang with new college friends.

One of my favorite cold weather adventures was my visit the Zoo Lights at the Columbus Zoo. Ten out of ten would recommend. I have never seen so many Christmas lights all in one place; it created a beautiful and almost magical atmosphere. The Columbus Zoo around the holidays would be perfect for a romantic date night. Although many of the animals were hibernating or hiding away in the warmth of the buildings, it was still exciting to walk around and take in all the lights and animals that were out. Hot chocolate is definitely recommended on the trek through the zoo. Overall, going to the zoo just brings out your inner child and that is a good feeling, especially with all of the stress from classes and exams.
